More Coffey information

Eliza Coffee married Edward Perry sometime around 1845; their son John was born in 1846. They had eight more children over the next 20 years, before her premature death at the age of 42 in 1865 following the birth of their last child, Henry Perry, who died shortly after his mother.

Eliza's maiden name is found in the baptismal registers of the Roman Catholic Church of Liscannor in county Clare, otherwise nothing would have been known of her origins. A look at Griffiths Valuation, which was a survey of Irish landholders taken between 1848 and 1864 reveal that a Jane Coffee held land in Liscannor. When Jane died in 1875, the informant named on her death certificate is Edward Perry, but no relationship is given. However, her age at death, which was 87 means that she is likely to have been Eliza's mother. Additionally, in an unpublished book called 'The Coffey family', Eliza's mother is given as Jane (nee O'Dwyer). We know that Eliza's father was called Francis Coffee as he is named in her obituary. A Francis Coffee held land in Liscannor in the 1820s at the time of the tithe assessments. This is the same land that Jane Coffee held in the 1850s at the time of Griffith's Valuation.
