The Perry Families of Ireland

Families

Much work has been undertaken on the Perry families of Ireland and it is still ongoing. As well as a lot of searching in archives, we have also joined the Perry DNA project, which has had surprising results. The Perry family of Grantham come from Dublin and before that from Liscannor in County Clare. Until recently our 'brick-wall' ancestor was Edward Perry, who died there in 1888. We had long suspected that Edward was the eldest son of John and Susan Perry of Kilboy, County Tipperary, but this was unproven. However, a perfect 25/25 DNA match between my dad (a descendant of Edward) and a descendant of John's brother William has proven this link.

However, DNA testing has also revealed that there is no link on the paternal side between the Kilboy Perrys (i.e. us) and the Perry family of Woodrooffe, County Tipperary and Cork. There could be a number of reasons for this, please look at the DNA Page for further details. There are many different Perry families in Ireland and some of their connections are as yet unclear. Work is ongoing on proving and disproving relationships and finding their origins.
