Father James Coffey

We know from Eliza Perry's obituary that her brother was Father James Coffey and that he died before 1865. Galway Diocese Archives hold records of parish priests from the area and sent me some information regarding James.

He was born in 1812 in Liscannor in a house directly opposite the old school. He is buried in Liscannor & his memorial plaque on the West wall of Liscannor church near the Sacristy door says that he was Parish Priest of Kilmoon, Kilillagh & Killeany & that he died on Tuesday 3rd October 1854 aged 42 years

At Easter 1966 the late Fr. Martin Coen wrote ;" An old man Frank Perry in Liscannor claims that Fr. Coffee was born in his house in the village directly opposite the old school & that they are related. The Lyons family , relatives , lived with Perry, 1960. He also claims Fr. Coffee is buried in Liscannor"
